Where to hold the shot

Shot put tips for beginners

To maximize your ability to throw the shot put further, you need to hold the shot using your fingers and not all the way in the palm of your hand.

Your fingers should be spread around the shot for support. And the shot should be held within the base of your fingers.

You will hold the shot upwards in a pushing position. Imagine you are screwing on a lightbulb.

When placing the shot for your attempt, make sure to sit the shot on your neck underneath your jawline. You will need to ensure that you will push the shot from your neck. The shot must not come off your neck at any point whilst you attempt your shot put throw.

Raise your elbow whilst attempting your throw to keep the shot firmly attached to your neck.
